UCSI Hotel Kuching

Check-in and check-out were quick and smooth, and the room was spacious for the price. Still, the hotel needs work on amenities, housekeeping, food quality, and upkeep. Our towels were stained, and there was no dental kit in the room. When I asked, I was told they were out of stock, so we ordered one from GrabMart. Staff said they were short-staffed and couldn't bring it from the lobby to our room. The lift also had a noticeable dusty smell as soon as we entered. The dinner areas on Level 3 and Level 16 looked abandoned, like they hadn't been used in a while. Breakfast was decent, but the pastries and bread were dry. The buns had gone hard in the food warmer, and the jam containers were sticky, probably because previous diners had touched them with jam-covered utensils. The hotel has potential, with spacious rooms and efficient front desk service, but these issues need attention to improve the stay.

The buffet had a lovely river view even after bad weather meant it had to be moved indoors. I especially liked the laksa and rojak stations, along with the live cooking of linut served with tempoyak. There was a great range of dishes, with lots of Sarawakian flavours. Staff were happy to explain ingredients and preparation to guests unfamiliar with the local food, which made it more enjoyable. Nurul and her team deserve a shout-out for their warm hospitality and for making the reservation easy. One thing to keep in mind: card payments may sometimes be affected by poor internet reception on the EFTPOS machine, so it's handy to have another way to pay. A delightful meal with great food and service, highly recommended!

The desserts looked lovely and tasted really good, and the food all seemed fresh and well prepared. So many buffet choices, definitely worth it.

The food was great too 👍🏼. I found the rooms spacious and clean, the service top-notch, and the location just right for what I needed. Excellent stay, would recommend to anyone visiting Kuching!
