Woodpecker Lodge Kuching

I was happy with how smoothly everything was handled, including when I added a second night. The PIC was friendly and professional when I booked and checked in, and clearly explained the room, gate card, operating hours, check-out, and how to get the deposit back if no staff were around. They also pointed me to a nearby laundry within walking distance. The single room was compact, like a one-person hostel room, but the bed was surprisingly comfortable. It had air-conditioning and a shower with a water heater. There’s a small shared kitchen with a water heater, rice cooker, and other appliances, along with instant noodles and coffee sachets. An adorable fluffy cat at reception was a bonus for cat lovers. Some rooms face the river, and the night view was spectacular. The lodge is a short walk from Kuching Waterfront and other attractions. For under RM70, it’s a comfortable, convenient budget stay with great service. I stayed on 25th Aug 2025 and will definitely come back!

The owner and staff were extremely helpful, and gave us lots of tips for our onward travels in Borneo. There’s also a proper kitchen with gas stoves, which is hard to find. Most rooms have air-conditioning and a bathroom, while any exceptions are clearly stated in the listing so you can choose. A very nice hostel or hotel for the price, and I can’t recommend it enough.

There are a few cute cats around that guests will love, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The shared kitchen, free Wi-Fi, and rooftop space to relax are nice to have. It’s a simple, welcoming budget place in a convenient spot, just a short walk from the waterfront, shops, and restaurants. The rooms are clean and comfortable with basics like air-conditioning and private bathrooms, though some are small or windowless. They could make a few minor changes to stop mold developing in the room. A reasonable choice for backpackers or anyone traveling on a budget.

The rooms are decent, and prices are affordable for backpackers and tourists. The animal hygiene needs attention, though, because the smell is too strong.
