Havona Hotel

Everything in the room worked, it was clean, and the air conditioning was cold. There are lots of food places and shops nearby, so getting around was easy. A pleasant stay for the price.

Restaurants are along the same row, handy for dinner, and there’s a petrol station nearby too. We paid RM236.04 per night for two rooms, with a RM50 deposit per room. We booked the same room type for a family of three, but the layouts weren’t alike: one was quite spacious and the other smaller. The setup was one king bed and one single. Check-in and check-out are mainly done at a kiosk, including getting the room cards and paying the deposit. Late arrivals can use it directly, while staff are available to help in the morning. At checkout, return the cards at the kiosk to get the deposit back. There’s a lift, and the hotel has capsule-style rooms. No water heater in the room, so you have to ask staff for one.

Food was easy to find, with restaurants and a cafe downstairs, and there was ample parking. The gate closes after 10:30pm and opens again after 7am. The self check-in and check-out machine is convenient, though I still needed staff to guide me. I booked through Agoda for two days: the first day I had two single beds, and the second day one king and one single. The power plugs really need maintenance, and the soundproofing isn’t great since I could hear the neighboring door close. For this price, it was still okay.

The strong Wi-Fi, smart TV, and fairly powerful, quiet air conditioning were the better parts. Tea garden restaurant, which is Halal, is right beside the place. It’s in a residential area, though there’s a cemetery across the street. I’m a Platinum vip member. It wasn’t the cheapest around, but it was nearer to my friend’s house. Still, this was probably my most disappointing stay in recent days. The place smelled of cigarettes, including my room. It looked narrower, smaller, and darker than advertised, and cleanliness could be better. There was no toothbrush or toothpaste. My window view was someone else’s underwear and clothes, and the alley was narrow and dirty. The water heater made a loud noise, the elevator was old and cramped so I took the stairs, and the bed smelled musty. Around 7am there was constant dragging and knocking, and I saw a tiny cockroach. I’m not trying to be too critical, but I’d have appreciated a smile from the receptionist. It felt more like a dorm than a hotel, and wasn’t as advertised.
