Bay Hotel

I was there on my own for two nights in a single queen room and was really satisfied. The rate was reasonable, the room was nice, and the bathroom had plenty of space. It wasn't too noisy at night, and the WiFi was strong and fast. They cleaned the room and replaced the towel every day.

The staff were helpful and even carried our bag up to the room. The hotel is right across from Darvel Mall, which is a great location. It's a basic place, but the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it was good value for the money. I'd stay here again.

I checked into room 305 on November 02, 2019 (Saturday) at 13:52. Getting to Bay Hotel, Lahad Datu was easy: the sign is clear by the access road, and the building looks new and nice. The lobby is small but cool, smells good, and has only a few sofas. Check-in took under five minutes, and the receptionist clearly explained where the room was and gave the WiFi password. The deposit was MYR100.00. There's no lift, so getting upstairs means using the stairs. They smelled nice and have attractive decoration and carpet, but the signs don't clearly show the way to the room numbers. My room was large, cozy, and pleasant smelling, with a nice outside view. All the lights worked, the windows were clean, and there was a writing desk, a socket by the bed, a qiblat sign, mugs, a kettle, and two complimentary bottles of mineral water. Shampoo, lotion, soap, a hose bided, and a hair dryer were supplied. The bathroom has separate toilet and shower areas, divided by a curtain, and hot water. There was a lot of soap scum on the marble in the shower section. The entrance door had no bell or peephole. There was no safety box, mini fridge, iron, ironing board, or coffee amenities. The wardrobe had no drawers and only a few hangers. There was a lot of dust under the bed, and the TV and wardrobe were dusty too. The TV picture was clear but the channel selection was limited to HBO and AEC. The local channels still couldn't be accessed because the TV hadn't been upgraded to my Freeview. My preferences were met for a highest-floor corner room, far from the guest elevator, with no connecting door and double sets of amenities. I'd recommend it for business and budget travelers, couples or honeymooners, families with kids, and groups or delegates. I wouldn't recommend it for disabled guests or for weddings or seminars.

The room was clean and comfortable, with new flooring. The lights felt too bright, and it smelled a little like a smoking room. A decent spot to rest for a while.
