A filthy, unreliable motel, and my worst stay ever. Dust had caked the ceiling fan and the chairs, and the fan blew grime around while I was trying to sleep. The bathroom exhaust fan was broken, so the room stayed steamy and smelled of mould for hours. They gave us towels once, but never cleaned the room during my three-day stay, and the dust and dirt just kept piling up. The geyser stayed at one scalding temperature with no way to adjust it, and there wasn't even a bucket to cool the water. No proper room service either. The scooty rental felt like a scam: we agreed to RM40 per day upfront, but the next day the guy first said none were available, then raised the price to RM45 as if that was normal. Shady business. If you're choosing between this place and the beach, pick the beach every time. Never coming back, steer clear.

It's 11 PM and people are still shouting to each other near the lounge. I asked nicely for a quiet room when booking online, then asked again at check-in, but they put me in the room closest to the lounge. The owner said there weren't any quiet rooms and it would be quiet by 10 PM, but it isn't. How is anyone supposed to sleep? I'll move out tomorrow. What a disaster!

A good fit for a longer stay, with the basics already there: WiFi, hot and cold water dispenser, water heater, TV, and either air conditioning or a fan. You can ask the staff for an iron, hair dryer, or kettle if you need one. Everything is provided at an affordable price.

We spent three nights at Western Motel and it suited our plans in Langkawi perfectly. It’s well placed for restaurants, the beach, and scooter rentals, and the rooms were clean and reasonably priced. Great value for money.

The WiFi was really fast, and breakfast was just right for us: three pieces of toast with butter, two eggs, and tea or coffee. We’d booked the cheapest twin room for one night, but got upgraded to a room for three. It was bigger than we expected, with a super comfy bed and everything we needed. For what we paid, I think it’s a great place to stay in Langkawi.
