Sunset Bay Cottage

The beach was beautiful, clean, and so quiet that we hardly saw anyone. It felt like we had it to ourselves. Sunset Bay Cottages is in a local, non-touristy part of the island, and the location was just what we wanted. We’d absolutely come back to Langkawi and stay here again. My husband and I traveled with our 18 year old son and his 2 best friends. The other guests were couples. Our room was simple, but very clean and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and the bed in room 5 was just right for me, both firm and soft. The linens were cozy. We also appreciated having a kettle and coffee in the room, and filtered water by the office. We spent plenty of time in the covered outdoor area by the beach, playing cards, reading, and relaxing during the heavy November rain. There was also a sheltered sitting area outside our room. A few stores and restaurants were within walking distance, and all were good. Nani was always around to help or answer questions. They even let us stay past checkout when it was raining too hard for us to ride our scooters to the next hotel. Renting a scooter was convenient for exploring the island, and the roads were well maintained and felt safe. I really can’t think of anything negative to say. You should stay here.

If you’re after a laid-back beach break, we think this beach is the best spot, and Sunset Bay Cottage is the best place to stay there. The beachfront setting is spectacular, and the clean, comfortable bungalows and friendly, helpful staff made it even better. We enjoyed swimming, resting in the shade, watching colorful birds, and catching the sunsets. The nearby little Warung is really good. There’s also a weekly market in town with nice food choices, though during Ramadan it happens daily. We were there in February and saw only a few mosquitoes, which came out around dawn. The area had been quite dry when we visited.

The view is breathtaking, and waking up to the sound of the waves is such a treat. It’s a very peaceful place, and the owners are friendly. The rooms have the basics, along with good WiFi, a fridge, and a kettle. The price is affordable and feels worthwhile.

A lovely, small development of well-planned semi-detached bungalows, set beside a quiet beach with private access. Everything was well built, well maintained, and very clean. The manager is on site and quick to respond. Thanks for lending us your power adaptor. Two restaurants are just a few minutes away on foot. The closer one serves tasty local Malaysian Muslim food, though you’ll need Google to make sense of the Malay menu. The other is the Scarborough Fish and Chip Shop, right on the beach and open all day. It has more Western food and quite decent cocktails.
