La Villa Langkawi - Private Pool

A very bad experience overall. They took a 100 RM security deposit at check-in, then at checkout said we’d stained the bedsheet and refused to return it until they cleaned the stain. It felt like a time-wasting tactic. There was no breakfast, the price was far too high, the rooms were humid and there was no tile flooring. Please don’t book this hotel.

The pool is large and good for swimming, and the staff are attentive, smiling and welcoming. The room itself is a standard boutique hotel room like others around the chenang area or heading to Pantai Tengah. The smoking area right beside the pool made it uncomfortable to swim, and some guests came down without proper swimwear. Soundproofing needs work. My room was near the pool, and people walking and playing there kept disturbing my sleep.

We didn’t get a decent night’s sleep during our three-day stay. The mosque’s call to prayer was shouted through microphones at 6:30, then children were screaming and playing in the pool from 8. There were only two towels per person, with no hand towels, and breakfast was so-so. The room was supposed to be a superior room, but it was filthy, humid, very dark and uncomfortable. The photos and description didn’t match what we found. I should have read the reviews more carefully, since they were accurate. There’s nothing I can praise about this hotel.

The call to prayer plays loudly through speakers around the hotel at 6:30am and continues for a full hour. With no soundproofing, you can hear people’s entire conversations in the hallway, and the prayer is too loud to sleep through. Rooms were full of mosquitoes, and the receptionists were extremely rude. I could hear what seemed like rats scurrying in the ceiling, and think one may have been chewing through a light wire. The location also wasn’t great, with a fair walk to the main area and beach. Bikinis aren’t allowed in the pool, only full bathers, and alcohol isn’t allowed on the premises. We cancelled our last night because the stay was intolerable. The hotel should be advertised as a Muslim hotel.
