Hotel Double Stars Melaka

The late night fire alarm was confusing. It went off loudly around 10pm, when we were trying to sleep, so we followed the rules and went down the stairs. No one explained what caused it, and even the staff seemed confused. It hadn’t been announced as a drill. We paid over RM400+ and got a creaky bed, stiff pillow, smelly bed, and lots of noise. I might have been more forgiving at a cheaper place. Other motels cost less and could be much better. This was a terrible stay and not worth it. We chose a hotel with breakfast, but got one packet of nasi lemak, one kuih, a small bottle of mineral water, and tea. The food was served individually on a plate, and the empty, dull eating area made it feel like a kids’ camping trip. There were no other dishes. At least the nasi should have been served in a proper tray or bowl. The smell was awful from the entrance lift up through the hallway and inside the lift. It smelled like trash, and I had to hold my breath. The room also wasn’t ready when we arrived at 5.30pm, even though check-in starts at 3pm and checkout is at noon. The receptionist said it hadn’t been cleaned because the hotel was fully booked. We arrived late already, so how much longer were we meant to wait? We were only given one cup, and the Coway water dispenser was out in the hallway, so I can’t comment much on the utilities.

For RM200+, I got a squeaky bed, a thin pillow that hurt my neck, and a bathroom smaller than the lift with no mirror. The lobby never had air conditioning, and the high, steep entrance stairs aren’t suitable for older people. The lift that connects to the outside was often unavailable, so you had to climb those stairs. There’s no hotel parking, and public parking nearby is very limited. Overpriced for a cheap hotel. If you have any other option, stay somewhere else.

The room was moldy and the paint was peeling. Breakfast wasn’t a buffet, just a small nasi lemak like the RM2 street kind, tea o, and a little water bottle. For RM100 a night, I expected more. I booked from 1.30 a.m. until 12.30 p.m., and I can find better hotels for this price.

We had a family suite with two queen beds in one room and a super single in the other, so there was plenty of space. Breakfast was what I expected, not very good. They were supposed to have nasi lemak and toast, but we got there quite late and the nasi lemak was gone. Breakfast runs from 7.30 am to 9.00 am. I wasn’t expecting much anyway.
