La Boss Hotel

The room was clean and free of bugs, and the staff were helpful and did sort out the problems I reported. Still, I checked out early and got a refund for the two nights I had left. The room lock failed when I arrived. They fixed it, but it broke again soon after, so I moved rooms. The replacement room had no bathroom supplies at first, though that was put right. The air-conditioning was so loud all night, and it was too hot to switch off. There was no Wi-Fi while it was being upgraded, with no known completion date, and no fridge. The TV had only five channels, and none were in a language I speak. The elevator opens onto a tired-looking hotel interior, with old hallways, room doors, and storage doors. The bare, cold corridor has none of the style or character suggested by the entrance. On arrival, cleaner’s trolleys were left in the hallway and smelled bad. They stayed there for hours while I came and went. For all this, I thought the hotel was overpriced.

For such a cheap hotel, it’s excellent value. The rooms are large, though the place shows its age. It’s reasonably close to the tourist spots, but in an area where locals live and eat, which can give you a look at everyday life there. Still, traffic in Melaka is jammed throughout the day, so if you don’t want to lose time getting around, I’d suggest staying somewhere more central.

The room was clean and comfortable, even for a longer stay, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Great place to stay while traveling around Melaka, highly recommend.

We slept well in the nice room, and there was plenty of parking during the school holidays. The staff were kind and helpful, even warming up our takeaway food in their microwave. We’ll come back.
