Oriental Riverside Guesthouse

For RM25, my four-bed room came with air conditioning, a towel, and a free locker. It was the biggest locker I've used, easily fitting my backpack and motorcycle helmet. The kitchen is simple but has the usual utensils, and the view of the Melaka river just a few feet away is fantastic. My first dorm stay in Melaka has been satisfying so far. The two gentlemen at check-in were warm and courteous. Jonker Walk isn't far, there are plenty of places to eat, and riders like me can park a bike on the pavement just outside the main door. I like it here.

It's convenient and affordable for a short stay, with Jonker Walk, Dutch Square, museums, and other attractions close enough to reach on foot. The place is a bit outdated, but neat, including the bathroom. The staff were nice and accommodating. We chose a room with air conditioning and windows facing the river, which gave us a good view of the Malacca River. I'd recommend getting air conditioning since Malacca can get extremely hot.

The location puts you close to everything, and for the low price this is a decent place and good value. The air conditioning was freezing cold and the WiFi was decent. The plumbing was a little off, and the hot water was weak. Although it's on the river, the back door is padlocked and requires a special key. Make sure someone will be there when you check in, since the place wasn't staffed on the day we checked out. We'd stay again.

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, and gave us a map along with a quick orientation. It's a nice guesthouse in Malacca, with large double rooms and very clean shared bathrooms.
