The Riverside Cardamom

We were there for more than a week and found the beds comfortable and the place clean. Jonker street is only 5 mins away, with 2 hawker centres just around the corner. The location was great, and the host was always reachable and very helpful.

I’ve stayed in a lot of guesthouses on this trip, and this is one of the best. It’s affordable, clean and well organised, with a water dispenser for drinking water or making tea and coffee. The location is peaceful at night but still an easy walk from popular spots. Definitely recommend it.

Right by the river, so it’s very easy to find. It’s a clean, mostly self-service hostel, and the Wi-Fi is really fast. You can leave your bag after checkout, but let the front desk know if you’ll be checking out late. Be sure to reply to their email to get the door code. They also give you temporary Wi-Fi outside the door and the contact details you need to get into the hostel.

Last year I stayed in the women’s dorm, and this time my boyfriend and I booked a private room. The place is super clean, which matters a lot to me, and late check-in was easy thanks to good communication. There’s a washing machine for RM5, plus RM1 for detergent, but no dryer, so you’ll need to air-dry your clothes. I was disappointed there’s no microwave, though I can live with that. It’s close to the popular Satay restaurant, Pak Putra Tandoori and a 7/11. From Melaka Sentral you can take a bus and walk, or, like we did when we were tired, get a Grab for just RM6. If I’m back in Melaka, I’ll stay here again.
