52 The Grace hotel

The hotel has a fresh, homely feel, and it's only a short distance from town. The room was on the small side, though it didn't feel cramped. Bedding was comfortable, the hot shower and air conditioning both worked, and the room was fairly clean (3.8/5). Towels looked generally clean but had a slight smell (3/5). Staff were helpful, though a little more cheer and a smile would have been nice (3.8/5). There's plenty of paid public parking out front (3/5). Bed, pillows, and blanket: 3.9/5. Room size: 3.8/5. Hot shower and aircon: 4/5 each. Decor: 4/5. Location: 4/5.

The room cost RM170+ for one night, which felt expensive for the quality, and I wouldn't come back since there are other nearby options at similar prices. We stayed in the Japanese style room, but the mattress wasn't comfortable. The rooms also aren't soundproof, so we could hear people showering and noise from other rooms. The aircon remote wasn't connected to the unit; staff couldn't fix it. Management eventually gave us a 15% discount, but I didn't feel that was enough. The girl at reception was friendly and did her best to help with the aircon problem, so I don't blame her for the remote issue. The morning receptionist was a foreigner and communication was difficult.

There was no facial tissue in the room, and the toilet right beside the door didn't seem properly arranged. Staff switched off the aircon while the customer was registering because of a fever. That wasn't appropriate, since the reception became very hot and uncomfortable for customers.

A budget hotel that gave me a great experience, from the reception right through to getting into the room. Recommended.
