The Island Hotel

I stayed for quite a while. The rooms were new, neat, and as expected, and every room had a convenient lavatory. Service was a different matter. It’s more of a boutique hotel, so I’d keep expectations for service needs modest. The location is great, near Pangkor town, within walking distance of the jetty, and a short drive from other places.

Two trips here were ruined for us. In November 2024, we were exactly eight minutes late checking out when the receptionist threatened to hurt us with a screwdriver in hand. The staff were the rudest on the island, and the receptionist kept making threats and trying to scam us whenever possible. In January 2025, the same receptionist behaved the same way. They kept our deposit by giving us dirty sheets, then implying we had dirtied them ourselves. The receptionist also threatened to call the police whenever another friend came by to meet us before a motorbike outing. If you want a pleasant stay, stay away from this hotel. It’s the worst on the island. Choose pretty much any other accommodation and you’ll have a great experience.

After our first night, there was no water for the toilet, shower, or even brushing our teeth. We had to buy bottles for everything at our own expense. We couldn’t check out early because we’d already paid for the full stay. They kept telling me the water would be back the next day, but it never was, and they spoke to me as if I understood nothing. Getting the room cleaned took repeated requests that went nowhere, so I eventually did it myself. They didn’t even offer a small discount despite almost all the basic hotel services being unavailable. On arrival, we’d already waited 20 minutes at reception because nobody was there to check us in. When the receptionist finally showed up, he said he’d been having lunch, though he arrived on a scooter. Maybe he’d gone home to eat, I don’t know. This is the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in, and I’m not usually harsh. Be careful booking here. If you want a paid camping experience, this is the place. Disgusting.
