The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands

The hotel’s English style and charming design made the stay feel special, and it was clean and very well cared for. Staff were friendly, professional and efficient. We also enjoyed both the restaurant food and the breakfast, which were very good quality. Some of the main attractions are a bit of a distance away, though the hotel arranged an excellent, enjoyable tour. We were very satisfied and would happily recommend the Lakehouse to friends. We’d come back.

We stayed in a deluxe suite, which was spacious and comfortable, and everything in the room worked. The dining was just as good, with young staff who were keen to help but never intrusive. The Lakehouse has an old-world feel alongside modern amenities. It fully earned our five-star rating. If you want a great place to stay in the Cameron Highlands, this is it. Thank you.

The staff were very good and tried hard, but they couldn’t make up for the food or the hotel itself. There are no other amenities, no pool or spa, so relaxing seems to mean reading while looking out at the muddy lake. The garden is small, but the flowers were the one thing I liked. The hotel faces a main road with heavy traffic, especially scooters on weekends. Inside, the rooms are very dark and felt claustrophobic despite their size. The 150 cm bed also seemed too small for the price. Breakfast was very limited, and dinner was much the same. The only menu choices worth ordering were the two salads. Afternoon tea cakes and scones were poor quality, with doughy scones. At £300+ a night, I expect everything to be right. If it had cost £100, I’d have rated it four stars. Sorry for the harsh review, but I was disappointed.

The flowers and garden are lovely, with lots of variety and great photo spots. I was up before daylight so I could enjoy the scenery longer. The decor has a real old English countryside feel, and the place might be especially nice off peak, when you can have the common rooms to yourself, particularly with Christmas coming up. The staff were welcoming when we arrived, helped with our bags and were open to questions and feedback. The young Indian woman at reception was especially helpful, and also served as a waiter in the restaurant. Portions were generous and the coffee cocktail was decent. The pancakes were a bit dry and bland, but the authentic honey at the buffet made up for it.
