Bilit Rainforest Lodge

We booked two connecting rooms for five of us, and they were huge. The food was good too, and the kids especially loved watching the birds. On our first day, wild Borneon pygmy elephants came to visit the lodge, and on a river cruise we shared the river with a crocodile. We saw so much along the Kinabatangan river, including a wild orang utan building its nest before dawn. Such a rare thing to witness. We had an amazing wildlife stay and I’d definitely come back with my family.

We had a great time on the river cruises, both day and night, spotting birds, crocodiles, monkeys and more. The rooms were clean, the food was good, and the service was friendly. A really good experience in nature. I’ll come again.

The boat trip was the highlight, with a good spotter at the helm and our knowledgeable guide Shirley. Back at the lodge, the room was very spacious, with a balcony and raised walkway. The dining area was big and airy, and the food was delicious.

There are comforts like air conditioning and hot water, and the staff do their best to make the stay pleasant. Food was reasonably good, too. We had a huge, comfortable family room at the end, but a plumbing problem meant we had to move to a smaller, dimmer room with connecting doors. The setting is close to nature, so mobile reception is almost nonexistent and there are quite a lot of mosquitoes. Bring repellent and bug spray. Go with an open mind and enjoy being away from your gadgets for a bit.
