D North Star Hotel & Spa

I booked a Superior Queen room through Agoda and paid RM168.60 for one night. The hotel didn't have a breakfast option.

We stayed one night with my wife before going on to Tawau the next day, after driving from Ranau. We checked in late, around 8pm, and the room was cozy. After dinner, I noticed the shower heater wasn't getting hot, so I called the counter. The staff member came in with his shoes on 🤷🏽 and said, 'begini laini panas dia.' I told him that wasn't hot, haha, and asked to change rooms. He said he'd check with the counter, then left. We waited for a courtesy call, but nothing came. Cincai service. A cheap room doesn't mean the service has to be cheap too, kan boss?

On my second stay in 2025, the service and hospitality felt even worse. The receptionist didn't smile or greet us as we came in. The internet was down from 2pm until late evening, and they said a technician was working on it the whole time. Nearby shops and eateries do make for a lively area, but this wasn't a good place to stay. I'd suggest looking at other options.

Those two big gaps between the bathroom door and frame make it hard to use the toilet without worrying someone might peek through. The door doesn't even lock. It might be fine if you're staying with someone you're close to, but think twice if you aren't. Whoever designed this bathroom didn't measure the door properly.
