Hotel Kensington

The staff were friendly, and it’s a good place to get some proper rest without being disturbed. It’s not amazing, but it’s not bad to stay at either.

The area was quiet, and there’s a 24-hour Malay restaurant nearby for late-night hunger. Don’t expect much from the taste, though 🤣. The location’s handy, roughly between the bus station, the hospital in case you need it, and the city centre. For a budget hotel, the room was nice to me. You get what you pay for. The staff were really friendly and helpful. One guy working that shift even helped get a cat out after it fell into a ditch. And I can’t forget the lady boss, who was kind and lovely. I’d stay again if I go to Sandakan.

There’s no elevator, so this place won’t suit you if you need one. It has two floors, and the rooms are quiet, tucked behind a large retail complex. They aren’t especially big or modern, but the stuff in them works. Staff are helpful, and there’s plenty of free parking. Rose Banana and Sweet Cool are excellent places to eat nearby. The minivan bus stop is right out front.

For my first stay at an OYO hotel in Sabah, this was the best experience. I asked for two pillows per bed and an iron with an ironing board, and they had them ready before I checked in. The price, service, staff, cleanliness and amenities all felt right for the room. Excellent!
