Hotel O Oriental Hotel

The room wasn't ready when my family and I arrived around 5PM. There was rubbish on the floor, the beds hadn't been made, and we had to wait while someone cleaned because the cleaner had “forgot.” The room also had no television, despite Agoda's listing showing one. They said it was “the last room” of that type, which felt unfair and misleading. We had to ask for an iron, and the one they brought had exposed wires and was defective. My mother got a slight shock from it. A water heater was available only on request, even though the hotel had plenty in storage. The curtain looked like it covered a window with a view, but it opened onto a narrow lorong between buildings. Water pressure was the only good thing. I booked the Deluxe Triple Room at OYO 90809 Oriental Hotel, Sarikei through Agoda, hoping for a relaxing family stay, but it became one of our most stressful and disappointing hotel experiences. I felt awful that I'd booked it for my family. Please be careful if you're considering this place. It wasn't worth the stress.

The room was clean and generally well kept, but the bathroom had no bidet or hose. As a frequent traveler, I rely on that for comfort and hygiene, especially since I'm used to having one. For the hotel's standard and price, I expected more thought for guests with different needs. It surprised me that such a basic facility was missing. I hope management adds one in future. Until then, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who prioritizes bathroom convenience.

There aren't many hotel choices in Sarikei, but at this price the basics should be above average. They should replace the sheets, fit proper hangers and a proper bidet pipe, fix the ceiling and leaking WC flush, and do quarterly pest control to prevent cockroaches and other pests.

We found the location handy, right in the middle of Sarikei with eateries within walking distance. Parking right in front of the hotel was convenient and gave us peace of mind about security, and check-in was quick. We drove from Kuching to Sibu with our three kids and stopped here as a family of five. The Suite Family room suited us, with plenty of space, a little sofa area, two working desks, a TV, mini fridge and hot shower. Both large beds were comfortable, though one mattress was a bit hard. We got three clean towels and three mini soaps. An electric kettle in the room would have been useful. At RM96 a night, it was a great deal for the room and facilities. We'd recommend it to anyone visiting Sarikei.
