Sea Star Resort Semporna

Those sunsets and the calm atmosphere really made the holiday for us. We travelled from Australia, and the warm welcome from the staff made us feel at home straight away. Our room was spotless, the facilities were excellent, and the food was great, especially the crispy, sweet fried banana. Sea Star Resort was a highlight of our time in Sabah. We’d happily recommend it and hope to come back.

The staff went out of their way to help us take group photos, and they got some lovely shots of my family. We spent 3D2N at Sea Star Resort Semporna, and the clear water right by the resort was amazing, with lots of fish and starfish to spot. Meals had plenty of choice and, to my surprise, the dishes didn’t repeat during our stay. There was some rubbish floating in the sea, which seemed to come from the local area rather than the resort. I hope the local authorities can improve ocean cleanliness. We had a relaxing, memorable visit and would love to return to Semporna.

The breakfast buffet was okay, though the food was cold, and there were no heaters to keep it warm. At this price, I expected warm breakfast. We stayed two nights in a spacious, comfortable cabin with a terrace, sun chairs, a large open bathroom and a fridge. The staff were nice, and boats run to Semporna now and then, so it’s possible to go there for dinner. The location is pleasant, though there are quite a few other hotels around. Speedboats passing by make a lot of noise, and there’s trash in the water.

Seeing so many beautiful sea stars living in the water around the resort was the most magical part of our trip. We also spent happy hours snorkeling in the clear water, paddling a canoe kayak and laughing on the inflatable duck. The hospitality was incredible and the food was delicious. With all that natural beauty and fun, plus such good service, Sea Star Resort made for a memorable Semporna getaway. We wholeheartedly recommend it.
