S8 Boutique Hotel

This is one of the friendliest budget hotels you’re likely to find in town. If you need an affordable overnight stay, it’s a great choice. The room was cozy, clean, and very comfortable.

For the price, it’s acceptable, but I wouldn’t choose it if I needed proper sleep between flights. We had a room with a window, and the road noise was awful all night, with loud motorbikes and passing cars. You could hear the corridor too, and light came through the big gaps around the door. The bathroom had no shower curtain or divider, so water covered the whole floor after a shower. Smoke from another guest’s toilet came into our room through the bathroom ventilation. The bed was comfortable, and the linen and towels were clean. The room had enough space to move around, plus a mirror, clothes rack, and bedside table. There are lots of cafés and a shopping mall nearby, and the airport is about 20 minutes away, 33 MYR one way by Grab. Reception charged a 2 MYR per night tourism tax, with no other extras. The Wi-Fi details were posted in the room, but none of our devices could even find the network. One outlet didn’t work, and there were only two, by the TV and bed, so we had to use our own power banks. The TV wouldn’t turn on. The air conditioner cooled the room well, but it was installed directly across from the bed. Even with the swing adjusted, the air blew onto your neck, and without it the room got too hot.

The room was dirty, smelly, and full of mosquitoes, and you could hear everything in the hallway all night because there’s no soundproofing. For that kind of room, it costs way too much. You can find somewhere cheaper or better nearby. I wouldn’t stay again.

The owners and staff were kind and helpful throughout my stay, and I can’t thank them enough. It’s a great short-stay option near the airport, with a balcony and a room that was just the right size. Restaurants, cafés, and a shopping centre with plenty of shops and food are close by. I’d happily recommend it.
