Seri Simanggang Hotel

My wife, our friends from the community, and I arrived in Malaysia yesterday at around 6:00 PM, hoping for a comfortable stay. Instead, we ran into several disappointing problems. The Wi-Fi only worked on some devices, while others couldn’t connect at all, which was a big inconvenience for our group. Breakfast was the worst part. We were first told it would start at 6:00 AM, then told it wouldn’t open until 6:30, leaving us waiting another half hour. When it finally started, the porridge and noodle soup were very cold, and the food quality was far below what a hotel should serve. It seemed as though it might have been prepared the night before and not reheated properly. By 7:15, only about 45 minutes into service, many items had already run out. With around 100 people in our group, the hotel should have planned for the number of guests. Staff seemed to focus on clearing used plates and otherwise stood around. They didn’t appear to check food temperatures or refill empty dishes. This was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had on our travels and group tours, especially because of breakfast. I hope management takes this seriously and improves service, preparation, and food standards so future guests don’t face the same disappointment.

There were dead flies in the breakfast cups, and the corridor water dispenser wasn’t working properly: hot water was unavailable, leaving only room temperature or cold water. The hygiene and service during my stay were extremely poor. My room smelled musty when I walked in, and the cleanliness was far below an acceptable level. The bathroom was dirty and had a noticeable urine odor, with traces of dirt everywhere. The bed made me itchy, and there were cockroaches. I called the front desk to have someone deal with one, but they took about 30 minutes to arrive. By then, I’d caught it myself with a cup, and no one even apologized. Later, during a quiet time, I asked for extra toilet paper and again waited about 30 minutes. I can’t understand how the hotel rates its hygiene so highly. This stay was extremely disappointing, and I won’t return.

It’s clean and works fine for a night stop, especially considering how old the hotel is. The price is cheaper when booked through agoda or booking.com. It’s in the center of Sri Aman, close to shops and restaurants.

We stayed for two nights in a central location. Our room was spacious, with a king bed, two chairs, and a table, plus a tea and coffee machine. Just off the lobby there’s a restaurant-cafe serving local and Western food.
