Kampung Air (Water Chalet) at Bukit Merah

March 2024. The rooms and facilities have been refurbished, and they really needed it. I've always liked coming here with a small BBQ, a bottle of wine and, if I've got the energy, a fishing rod. The sunrises and sunsets over the lake are beautiful.

I really enjoyed the food and the great customer service. You can pick a room looking toward the forest or the lake, and the balcony is a lovely spot to relax, though it fills up with bugs at night. A lake-facing room gets an awesome sunrise. The views here are the best I've experienced, but the furniture and fixtures clearly haven't had enough care or maintenance. The place has a lot of potential and could use some good evening activities.

My family and I had a really enjoyable two-night break here, and there's a good deal on offer for a vacation. The orang utan sanctuary is open and worth a visit for the educational part, especially because the people in charge know a lot. Getting there by boat is a nice touch since it's on another island. The eco park was unfortunately closed at the time. There are plenty of activities for kids and adults. Food stalls and shops have reasonable prices. The hawker food wasn't great, though it was cheap for a resort, while the coffee house meals were better and still affordable. At night the coffee house becomes an outdoor place to eat with a live band.

That lake-facing room with a balcony was easily the best part of my first visit. I could have spent all day fishing there. We came in August 2023 for a big family gathering and a 3D2N getaway, with the whole trip arranged around our plans and all the rooms at Kg Air booked, so it felt like a private vacation. There were three meals a day, and the food was plentiful and good. We even had karaoke one night during the BBQ. I was travelling with my parents, who need special care and use a wheelchair, and I really appreciated being allowed to park my car inside. Kg Air guests normally park in the designated area and take a shuttle van over. There are lots of activities for an extra charge, and the details are on Google. Food is also available at the waterpark. Hope to come back for more fishing. Tip: to book all the rooms, arrange it and pay the deposit much earlier, around 8-10 months ahead, especially if your dates fall during public or school holidays. I think there are about 20 rooms.
