The rooms were nice, the service was good, and breakfast came as a buffet. For Mozambique it’s expensive, though accommodation in Beira generally costs a lot. The payment problem was awful. We were charged USD 1,000 instead of the USD 100 we owed. We noticed once we were in Tofo, and the hotel also called it a mistake at first. But days passed without a refund or any fix. We called every day for 20 days, then had to travel back to Beira on a 12-hour bus ride that cost USD 100 just to confront the manager. As soon as we said we’d go to the police, they suddenly sorted it out quickly. They even tried to charge us for the extra nights we had to stay while getting back money lost through their mistake. We still can’t tell whether it was an error or an attempt to scam us. Be careful paying at the front desk, especially if you’re a foreigner leaving Mozambique soon. Customer service was very poor.

The shrimp curry and garlic bread at the restaurant were good. The food was fresh, but it took a long time to prepare. The hotel was clean and had decent facilities, especially compared with what’s around town. The toilets could use improvement, though nothing major.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Check-in was a poor experience, with guests left waiting for payment confirmation. That seemed unnecessary since they could just settle what they owe at checkout. Service was the worst part.

We really enjoyed Beira, its history, the beach sites and the lovely, happy people. The hotel looks lovely from outside, and the reception and lobby have a modern interior. But the room linen and towels were very old, and the service needs a lot of work. Food and service in the restaurant also need improvement. Maybe there isn’t much competition nearby, which could explain the lack of enthusiasm when serving.
