Getting around was frustrating because the hotel charged ridiculous prices for transportation. I wish I’d had access to ride-sharing instead of relying on those absurd fares. The room had a fantastic view and beautiful sunrises, and the air-conditioning worked well, but the buffet breakfast was only okay. The mosquitoes were awful. There were no nets over the beds, and instead of falling asleep to the ocean, I heard the AC or mosquitoes buzzing by my ear. After getting bitten badly the first night, I made the room very cold on the second and covered my head and arms with a beach towel. I got bitten less that time.

The hotel was neat, with a nice view and decent breakfast choices, but the service was poor and slow. The air conditioner didn’t work, and although I asked to change rooms, I wasn’t moved until 10pm. I also called several times about the blocked sink drain, but it was never fixed.

I spent two weeks at the Southern Sun in Maputo recently and had a comfortable, enjoyable stay. The rooms and beds were very comfortable. What really made the difference was the staff and management, even the owner. He was a gracious gentleman who took time one evening to chat with me and make sure everything was going well. I can’t recommend this hotel enough!

Right on the beach, with very clean, well-kept rooms and a really comfortable bed. The staff were super helpful. A lovely stay.

The place is just as it was when we last visited in 2017, and the staff were warm. We had a wonderful, pleasant stay and a great experience. We’ll definitely visit again.
