The Quiet Corner Guest House

The room was okay and breakfast was provided, but Maputo is hot and my AC didn’t work. There were no bed nets, and mosquitoes were everywhere. The TV was out of order too. I had to ask the room managers repeatedly for adapters for my phone and laptop, then decided to buy them myself. Ignacio and Fatima were wonderful, but Nacio was cold-hearted and didn’t offer much help when I asked. Apart from these problems, everything else was okay.

I’ve stayed here three times, but the latest visit will be my last. In the afternoon, the receptionist glanced up from her phone and went back to it without speaking. I said hello and got a delayed mumble under her breath. The same thing happened in the morning when she walked straight past me; I greeted her and eventually got another mumbled response. When I first arrived, she said I could pay by card, then changed her answer ten minutes later. I asked what the cost would be in Rand so I could work out whether I had enough cash, and she got moody and rolled her eyes. In 20 years of travelling, she’s the worst receptionist I’ve come across. What a way to treat tourists.

I visit Maputo twice a year and always stay at Quick corner. The same problem keeps happening. Around 6:00 in the morning, the maids talk far too loudly every day. It’s horrible and shows no respect for the guests. The WC needs more improvement.

The guest house is basic but has security, and the staff quickly prepared a letter for my visa application, which helped a lot. Their taxi service costs 2-3 times as much as other Maputo taxis and isn’t available at night unless you book an exact time in advance. Staff wouldn’t point me toward other taxi services, so I had to scramble to find a way home at night until I found a reliable, honest service, Marcelo's.
