WL Hotel Maputo Executive

Great hotel.

After traveling to 95 countries, this is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I made a video about it for our channel, “Niko y Daia Travels,” if you want to see more. The reception was just okay and could improve, but the kitchen crew and the cleaning staff, both women and men, are what make the place stand out. They deserve a salary increase. The corridors smelled musty, and the carpets were visibly dirty. Breakfast was very poor, with little variety, badly prepared food, and what seemed like leftovers. For the price, the quality is completely unacceptable, and I can't recommend WL Hotel Maputo Executive. From check-in until 10 the next morning, there was no water from the taps in any of the rooms. The presidential suite and the regular rooms were both in very poor condition, more like a guesthouse. We asked for a bucket of water for basic needs, but the one they brought was in terrible shape, like a construction bucket. When we tried the jacuzzi in the presidential suite, water started flooding the room because the bathtub was leaking, and nobody had warned us.

We ended up in a presidential suite, though the rooms we were first shown were all disappointing. One that was supposedly freshly cleaned still looked poorly cleaned. Another smelled strongly of mold, with damp stains on the wall behind the bed. Even the suite had problems. Some of the lights didn't work, both TVs were faulty and had no cable or satellite service, and the toilet was unusually low, like one in a preschool bathroom. The air conditioner blew straight onto the bed, so sleeping with it on was impossible. There was no running water, and we spent the night without a shower. We asked for a bucket, but it only arrived the following day after repeated requests. The bucket and water were disappointing, as the photo shows. The corridor carpet leading to the rooms wasn't clean either, and smelled strongly of dust and damp. Breakfast was very poor: the buffet was limited and unappealing, and spaghetti with minced meat seemed completely out of place on a breakfast menu. For a recently opened four-star hotel, this experience fell well short of what we expected. The building has potential, but the staff need to show more care and professionalism. If nothing changes, the hotel could start deteriorating quickly within a few years.
