Toshari Lodge

The lodge arranged our half-day tour, with the prices clearly listed, and the guide was phenomenal. He went well out of his way to look for the Big 3 out of the Big 4 that live in Etosha. The leopard was too far out for a half-day trip, but we did see lions, elephants, and a rhino. We ate at the lodge because there aren’t many nearby restaurant options unless you drive to another lodge, and it was nice to enjoy the quiet. The buffet had plenty to choose from, including vegetarian dishes. Drinks cost extra on top of the set buffet price. Toshari Lodge is well placed for exploring Etosha National Park. The lodge says it’s a 26km drive from Andersson Gate, the south gate, so it works well for an early start. The design pairs contemporary style with traditional Namibian earth tones. Staff were friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived. Our spacious room had a welcome card on the bed, and complimentary tea, coffee, and milk were provided in the room and in the lounge and restaurant. There are two small pools, quiet and rarely crowded if you swim while most guests are out in Etosha.

Our room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully furnished, and both breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, even staying late to greet us after our arrival was delayed. Dinner was really expensive at 450 N$. The pool was a big letdown. The water was cloudy and full of insects, so we couldn’t use it. In Namibia’s climate, that’s a serious drawback. Don’t book this lodge expecting a usable pool.

We had a great time camping here and learned a lot from the staff about different cultures, languages, crafts, and life stories. Everyone was friendly, open, and helpful. The lunch we ate at the lodge was tasty and served with care, though the food felt a little pricey for campers. We loved the landscaping and facilities too, but the people made our stay unforgettable. Thank you Dolly, Mercia, Endelyn, Monica, Metchi, Juliette, Adi and Filimon!

The rooms were comfortable and really clean, and the staff were attentive and gave great service. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic. I looked forward to eating there every day. We had three perfect days here, and I’ll definitely be back. :-)
