The pool was amazing, even though it’s a bit of a walk from the rooms. We also really liked the room and bathroom design, and the bathroom seemed recently renovated. Between the chalets, the lawns and rock formations are beautiful, with big groups of dassies grazing early in the morning and late in the afternoon. We had to stay an extra night after a flat tyre left us 30 km from the lodge. The staff helped arrange for mechanics to come from Keetmans and replace it. Huge thanks to Emmanuel, Sonny, Darius, Ronald, Hilma, and the lovely restaurant staff. Dinner had decent options, including for vegans and vegetarians, and a great wine selection. We’d recommend the canyon drive with refreshments too.

The meals were delicious, well prepared, and generous, with lots of variety. Special thanks to Anna, Riaan, and Cecilia for their warm, attentive service. After a day exploring Fish River Canyon, this is a peaceful place to unwind. The chalets are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully styled to fit the dramatic landscape. We loved the views and the sense of being close to nature. Gondwana Canyon Lodge exceeded our expectations, and I’d gladly recommend it for the comfort, service, and memorable stay.

Such a peaceful, well-kept place to relax after seeing the canyon. The food was delicious, and the wine list was great. Staff were really friendly and attentive. We had a wonderful stay.

The canyon outings can be exhausting, so this was a welcome place to rest afterwards. I spent hours at the spacious pool, and enjoyed both the sunset walk and the night drive through the desert. I hadn’t expected much since there aren’t many choices around Fish River Canyon, but the stay turned out to be relaxing and enjoyable.

What stands out most is the setting: granite formations, soft green lawns, quiet, and warm desert air. It feels like a peaceful desert hideaway where you can forget about the outside world. The pool is tucked away about half a kilometer off, waiting for you when you’re ready to do nothing. Canyon Lodge is a Gondwana Collection property in Namibia’s deep south, a few kilometers from Fish River Canyon. To be clear, I mean Canyon Lodge, not the Roadhouse. I haven’t visited the Roadhouse yet, but hope to when I get the chance. From what I’ve gathered, this was among Gondwana’s first lodges and was established around 1913. Its setting among ancient granite boulders in the Nama Karoo biome gives it a strong sense of heritage and authenticity. The chalets are small but comfortable, cool, and charmingly designed, with enough room for any traveler. It would suit a honeymoon, a trip with someone you love, or a solo search for peace and inspiration. I’d visit in all four seasons if I could. It has that much soul. The buffet deserves a mention too. Dinner is flavorful, breakfast hearty, and there’s good provision for vegetarians as well as meat lovers. The chefs clearly put care and creativity into the food. The receptionists, waitresses, guides, housekeepers, maintenance crew, and the rest of the team all help make the place work so well. My compliments to the Gondwana Collection team for finding and developing lodges in such unexpected and beautiful parts of Namibia. Canyon Lodge is a masterpiece. A solid 5 out of 5. If you’re heading to the deep south, it would be my top choice. I left refreshed and inspired, already thinking about another visit. Look out for my book coming soon, "The Ultimate Travel Companion 150 Adventures in Namibia A Guide's Perspective".
