Kenneth treated the animals with real respect, which we appreciated. The location, views, rooms, food, and staff were all worth five stars to us. Our reservation is about the lodge’s management. The maids’ outfits and the staff’s deferential curtsies brought back unpleasant associations. We’d rather see employees who carry their considerable responsibilities with confidence and pride.

The game drive across the private park with the owners was a real highlight. They taught us a lot about conservation, the wildlife, and what daily life there is like. We also ate very well at both dinner and breakfast, and the separate lodge rooms were so comfortable. The bathroom had the best view I’ve ever seen from one. Aloegrove gave us a lovely welcome and amazing scenery. I only wish we’d booked a longer stay. We hope to return for more time someday.

The game drive around the farm was amazing. Johan and Ivy were so friendly, and took time to point out animals and share interesting facts. Seeing their orphaned lion and leopard being fed up close was special, as was feeding some Ostrich and a very friendly Dikdik. Best of all was sitting just feet from their orphan Cheetha while he was being fed. Our room was clean, very spacious, and well equipped, with a great shower and lovely views. The decor and furnishings weren’t top quality, but the outdoor space and pool were excellent. There aren’t many rooms, and the hosts and their colleagues were warm, helpful, and attentive. They also arranged our visit to the CCF, which is a must. A great end to our Namibian holiday, right up there with the best places we stayed.

The game drive was a real standout, with leopard, lion, and cheetah. We stayed in a cozy room with a private terrace looking out over the lodge’s huge farm. Set on a hilltop, this family-run place has fantastic views of the Waterberg and the surrounding area. The hosts and staff were all friendly and helpful. I’d gladly come back.

The views from the pool and restaurant are just as lovely as the ones from the room. I spent a lot of time at the pool, which looks out over the Waterberg plateau, and the staff kept checking that I had what I needed. The hospitality was outstanding. The luxury suites sit on a hilltop with an unobstructed view of the plateau. You can see it from the bathroom and kitchen too, and sunrise was stunning. Johan and Ivy have built a marvellous lodge with commanding views over the countryside. I spent about four weeks driving around Namibia and saw plenty of attractions. Aloegrove was one of my top three places. If you’re heading to Etosha or coming back, it’s worth taking the decent drive off the B1 and staying two nights. When navigating, choose “Aloe Grove Lodge Entrance Gate” and be patient on the way in. Good things take time. My photos are mostly views from the room, pool, or restaurant area. The mess in the kitchen pictures is just my stuff dumped on the table. It’s outrageous that Aloegrove has less than five stars!
