The Delight Swakopmund

I was staying there as a paying guest and came back after getting a wet shave, then waited in the reception bar for my guide. The manager stared at me and kept asking what I was doing there, making me feel really uncomfortable. Very rude. There are better places where guests are treated with more respect. Avoid this hotel.

We have been to Namibia many times and love the country, and this wasn't our first stay at Delight Hotel. This visit was deeply upsetting. Four of the 16 rooms in our group were robbed. I caught a cleaner searching through my things on departure morning, after I had gone down for breakfast and returned just five minutes later. She seemed to think she had time to put my wallet back, but it wasn't where I'd left it. I believe the cleaners and their assistants were going through guests' belongings and taking money. The money was never returned, and nobody apologized. We reported it to the police without result. They took about $2,500 from us on average, apparently only a small amount at a time, leaving the wallet behind so the loss might not be noticed until guests had moved on to another hotel. Friends had told us this had happened at Delight Hotel before. We were shocked by how brazen and widespread it seemed. The manager and administration offered no real help. They said it was a matter between people and they would handle it themselves, which did nothing for us. I came away thinking management was covering for what happened, since nobody helped resolve it or apologized. It's a huge disappointment in lovely Swakopmund and a beautiful country. Staff make a hotel, and until the administration changes how it deals with this, I can't recommend staying here.

Our stay at The Delight was lovely until we paid for the activities. We weren't given the 10% discount we'd previously been told about. Then we checked the tour price online and found the hotel had added 1.000 Namibian Dollars to what the operator charged. We should have checked sooner, but it was still disappointing.

The Delight Hotel is so well placed in town, with the beach and everything else an easy walk away. Gondwana is consistently great across Namibia, and the service here was just as good as ever. A stress-free stay in Swakopmund, highly recommend.
