Auas City Hotel

Housekeeping was impeccable, and the place felt safe and comfortable. We had several pillows, toiletries, and a walk-in shower. It’s centrally located near a quiet mall with just about anything you could want. Cork and Fork serves a great buffet breakfast with juice, coffee, tea, meats, cheeses, hot dishes, and breads. Laundry and the airport shuttle are available for a fee. Rose sent us to IN Transfers and Tours, and we had a great city tour.

We switched from the tiny standard twin room to a spacious family room with two double beds. The staff were very helpful, and everything was clean. The attached restaurant had good food, though it took quite a while to come out. The outdoor seating was lovely, shaded and surrounded by greenery. Reception is small.

The rooms are clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I did have to ask for the in-room coffee station to be restocked. Breakfast is quite modest and limited, so this won’t suit you if you want a big breakfast. For the same price, I’d choose Safari or Protea hotels, which have buffet breakfasts and much more comfortable rooms. I did appreciate the nice touch of getting a free key ring and bottle of water when I left.

The fast, efficient laundry service was a bright spot: they got laundry for two people done in two hours. The restaurant food was decent, though nothing special, and the staff were friendly, if bored. Otherwise, this is a pretty basic hotel, and we only stayed because our tour started here. The bathrooms have no hooks for towels or caddy for soap and shampoo, there’s no hair dryer, and the room has no instructions for calling reception or room service. You can’t make outgoing calls from the phones either. We went downstairs to ask about room service and were first told to dial 100, then told to dial 200 when we tried it. Staff seemed lost and bored. It’s far from downtown, so tourist spots aren’t walkable. I’d spend a few extra dollars somewhere closer to downtown and the sights.
