The garden looked neglected, with leaves scattered around and shabby furniture, and it was nothing like the inviting photos online. Our room also fell short of what the website suggested, and the shower barely worked. We were woken around 8am by loud sledgehammering as workers tried to take down a wall beside our room. We hadn’t been told by email or the previous evening that renovations were happening that month. The first night, I went to the car boot and stepped in dog poo in the unlit parking lot. When I mentioned it the next morning, the woman running the place replied, “Oh we heard it all and we had it all!” It sounded as if complaints weren’t new. We’d expected a guest house like the one shown on its website, but the whole experience felt misleading, almost like a fraud. At first, the person at reception seemed excessively nice. Once we raised a few issues, they became very unfriendly and unprofessional, threatened us in the name of Jesus, and insulted us. It was a deeply disappointing stay. This didn’t match the hospitality we usually experience in Namibia, where people are normally friendly and helpful. If you’re planning a trip, check everything carefully before committing financially or emotionally. Happy travels.
