Protea Hotel by Marriott Windhoek Furstenhof

The spa treatments we actually received, a massage and peeling, were great, though they weren't the treatment we'd gone in for. The admin staff and massage therapists weren't communicating, but we did get the price difference back. Elsewhere, it felt like they kept changing prices as they pleased. We arrived to find no complimentary water, then were charged 35 ND per bottle when we asked. At happy hour, we ordered drinks, but at payment they tried to charge full price, saying happy hour had ended even though its ad was right in front of us. They took the sign away and said it wasn't working. On my last day I ordered a chicken wrap with potato wedges, but got a chicken wrap with the vegetables they serve at breakfast. Jonas and Emily also made sure to add a percentage for their “service.” I don't recommend the place. They all seem to be trying to get money out of you. Don't go unless you have no choice.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the location is convenient. It's near Windhoek CBD and within walking distance of a mall with a Pick n Pay, pharmacy, fast food places and most shops you'd need. Government buildings and gardens, the meteorite site, independence museum and small church museum aren't too far either. My room felt dated, though, and the carpet had dirty marks that needed a proper wash or replacement. Breakfast came with the room, but was below average and not what I expected from a Protea hotel. For what you get, I felt the nightly rate was overpriced.

Horrible. Too expensive, dirty, slow service, and the TV channels were an abomination. The Protea in Walvisbay is light years ahead of the Windhoek one in every way. Wouldn't recommend it.

The hotel was quiet both times I ate, with no noisy guests or kids running through the halls. It's well located near amenities, and there's security on the premises. My room was on the ground floor close to the restaurant, so I didn't need the lift or stairs. There was plenty of closet space and hangers, and the safe worked well. The rooms and facilities were much like any other Protea Hotel. Hot water was less reliable, depending on the time of day. I suspect they were short staffed: one woman was handling the reception queue alone, and the restaurant had just one waiter at both dinner and breakfast. It was hard to get anyone's attention while dining.
