The Mayrock

I spent a night in a standard room at Mayrock Hotel. The front desk staff were welcoming, and the rate felt reasonable compared with similar places in Abuja. The area in Maitama was peaceful and easy to find, with a pool out back that adds to the setting. My room was clean, with a comfortable, roomy bed, a fridge, bottled water, and things for making tea or coffee. Free WiFi is available. The room was smaller than I expected, though, and the air conditioner sat right above the bed. It was a bit noisy and didn’t work as well there. Noise from behind the building, possibly from staff, was loud enough to interrupt sleep. They may not realize how close those activities are to the rooms, so light sleepers could have trouble. If you’re there on a Sunday morning, going out for a walk and some fresh air might help you avoid the noise. The bathroom was clean but needs a little upkeep. The shower head could be replaced, and there’s nowhere to hang towels. WiFi was weak in my room and kept cutting out. It worked best near the door. It was a decent stay, and better noise control would make the place better still. I’ll come back and try the restaurant next time.

The staff were welcoming, and the hotel sits in a decent, calm area. My family and I had a good stay, with a nice room and a lovely environment. Breakfast was great, too.

Don’t let the modest look fool you, this place is a hidden gem. The service is simple and decent, and they can get you almost everything you need. The pool and poolside are lovely, and there may be more to explore that I missed. The food was a hit every time. Try the spaghetti bolognese, then the afang soup, and finish with the charcoal chicken. Their juice is done right, too.

The location at Mayrock Hotel in Abuja was convenient for getting to major attractions and business areas, while still being peaceful. I also felt at ease in the secure surroundings. The team were warm and professional from the moment I arrived, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Thoughtful lighting and bedding made the room relaxing, with a modern but cozy feel. I especially enjoyed the restaurant. It had a good spread of local and international dishes made with fresh ingredients, and the breakfast buffet offered plenty of choice. The hotel also has a well-kept gym, a calm pool area, and conference and event services that seem suited to both business and leisure stays. Mayrock Hotel exceeded my expectations for service and amenities. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, memorable stay in the city.
