Four Points by Sheraton Lagos

I booked because I trusted Marriott, having stayed at many of their hotels around the world without problems. This was my worst Marriott experience, and I wouldn't return to this property. The entrance and lobby looked clean, but the hallway and guest room smelled strongly musty. Something in the room made my allergies much worse every day. The bathroom looked neglected and unhygienic, with visible mold throughout the shower and spots on the ceiling. When we arrived, the sheets were visibly stained. A staff member changed them when we asked, but that shouldn't happen at check-in. There were safety concerns too. The smoke detector fixture looked missing or incomplete, with wiring exposed, and the electricity key-card holder was loose on the wall. There were no ice machines, and no microwave guests could access, both basic amenities I usually expect at a Four Points hotel. I took photos while we were still there, emailed hotel management in detail, and also raised the issues in person. I was told the hotel was fully booked. At checkout I explained again what had happened, including the effect on my allergies and my email to management. Nothing was done, and I was charged the full amount. The staff were kind, respectful, and professional, room service was consistently quick, and I appreciated the security presence. I felt safe, and the room had a nice view. Those good points don't outweigh the serious cleanliness, maintenance, and safety problems. The high star rating and overwhelmingly positive online reviews are misleading, since they don't reflect the actual state of the guest rooms. I relied on the brand and its online presentation, and the reality was a major disappointment. I've never had service or conditions like this at Marriott before. I wouldn't recommend the property or stay here again.
