Maroko Bayshore Suites

The front desk lady was very kind, and the food was great. We stayed two nights. It was a little pricey, but the rooms were nice and the Atlantic Ocean view was beautiful. Our balcony faced the pool and restaurant, and we could see boats passing on the ocean. The AC worked great, too. It was a great experience.

The rooms are roomy and fairly clean, but the front desk staff don’t greet guests. The breakfast buffet is pretty scanty.

The views from the executive suite are stunning, which is why I kept returning to Maroko over the years. But the repeated problems have me thinking twice about future stays. Room service often took more than an hour, and the mosquitoes need attention. Spraying the rooms before guests arrive would help. The bathrooms also need renovation. They’re dated, there’s visible mould, and I’ve run into leaking bathtubs in several rooms. Despite my repeat visits, that problem still hasn’t been addressed. The front desk experience has felt cold, especially with the managers and staff behind the desk, who often seem disengaged. A smile and more courteous manner would go a long way toward making guests feel welcome. That lack of warmth doesn’t fit what I’d expect from a premium place. I’ve never really felt the hospitality that comparable establishments manage to offer. Taken together, these issues and the unwelcoming atmosphere have made me reconsider staying at Maroko again. I may look elsewhere for better value and a more genuine guest experience.

Salma's is a real highlight. The Lebanese restaurant around the pool serves very good food, with a great atmosphere and a strong choice of cocktails, drinks, and dishes. You can sit on the deck or in the air-conditioned room overlooking the canal. I’d recommend it even if you’re not staying at the hotel. The canal-side rooms have lovely views and offer a peaceful break from Lagos, though there’s house music by the pool. It isn’t very loud. The location is excellent, and the rooms are huge, with a balcony that’s a real treat. The kitchen only has a microwave and electric kettle, with no dishes. The room itself was spotless, but the sparse interiors feel outdated and tired. The bathrooms are dated too and could use renovation. Maroko could use a makeover, but I still think it’s good value for the spacious room, the view, and Salma's outstanding food. A real oasis in Lagos.
