Spicery Hotel

The prices are fair, and being on the Island is basically the hotel's selling point. The neighborhood is noisy, though, and the building is quite old, so even a little renovation would help. The rooms aren't maintained, and they seem short-staffed. It takes almost forever to get a problem or complaint addressed.

A bad choice for an overnight stay. There's no hot water, and you have to call several times just to get one thing done. They don't seem to know how to handle customer requests.

The room isn't bad for size, but it's very dirty, with dust everywhere, even on the wall light. The balcony door has a problem opening, and the fan stays pointed in one place instead of rotating. Not everyone wants a constant direct blast of air. The bathroom needs the most attention. The wash-hand sink had black dirt, and water was left standing in it after I brushed my teeth, among other problems.

The staff were the best part: welcoming, polite, helpful, and quiet as they went about their work. I'd stay again if the issues were fixed. The hotel has potential, but management needs to review it and make sure the facilities work. We needed basics like hot water and clean drains, and the water marks from leaks should be touched up. Waking up to a grotty ceiling wasn't nice, and we kept the toilet door shut because the drain smell made us gag. The food needs work too. Three slices of yam and egg took an hour to arrive, and the grilled fish tasted like sandpaper. These seem like quick fixes. Hopefully those who can build and invest in a hotel this size will get senior management to focus on maintenance.
