The animal outings with Orlando were a real highlight. He paid close attention to what we wanted and went to great lengths to spot wildlife, and he knows so much about the plants and animals. We spent three nights at Guacimo Lodge, and the room was even better than the photos. The staff also handled our meat-free meals without any trouble, and everything we ate was excellent. It’s a peaceful place where you can hear the jungle all day, and we felt completely safe. Prices seemed fair given that supplies have to come by boat. If you’re happy to be away from daily life without internet around the clock, it’s ideal. We loved the whole experience and hope to come back.

The staff were so friendly, and the pool area was lovely. Everything at the lodge was clean, including our room, and the mosquito nets kept us well protected. We had a lot of fun on the tours and learned loads from Orlando; the hike was especially great. Sleeping in a little tree house surrounded by nature was such a treat, and waking up to that river view made it even better. We really enjoyed our quiet stay. 10/10, would recommend!

The team were incredibly attentive, and the owners and manager responded quickly whenever needed. They even coordinate things carefully before you arrive, so the welcome feels well prepared. Our cabin looked out over the jungle and San Juan river, a peaceful view to wake up to every day. The night river tour under the stars was unforgettable, and the other outings were fun, adventurous, and informative too. It’s a magical spot for getting away from the world. Highly recommended.

The boat ride out is long, but it’s part of the experience and really shows how remote the lodge is. Getting there was easy to arrange. We booked the three night adventure package, then added another night so we could enjoy the place at a slower pace. The guides were local, passionate, knowledgeable about animals and plants, and spoke good English. There are plenty of different trips, from canoe and trail outings to forest treks and night tours, or you can stay by the pool and look out over the river. We had a special four night stay at Guacimo Lodge. The rooms and views were beautiful, the staff exceptionally friendly, and both the service and food were fantastic, especially considering how far away it is. The lodge and bungalows are built to limit their environmental impact, and everything runs on renewable energy. It’s an eco lodge, so small insects can get into the room, but the nets worked well and we didn’t get bitten. The owners clearly care a lot about conservation and the lodge. This was a highlight of our Nicaragua trip.

Nature is the best part of the experience, and the lodge sits right by the river. Manuel and his crew somehow made us feel surrounded by luxury in the middle of this “Amazon” landscape. El castillo and its nearby pirates introduced me to a history I hadn’t known, and the plans for the channel were new to me too. Getting there takes a little while, but it’s easy to organize: the boat from san Carlos to el castillo is only two hours, then the lodge picks you up for a 15 minute ride. We’ve traveled all over, and Guacimo Lodge will stay in our hearts for the rest of our lives. It reminded me of our time in Zambia/kafue, with its authentic setting right in nature. There’s really no reason not to go. We rarely post on Google, but this place deserves to be better known.
