We were sad to leave. Seyla, the local guide Marga works with, was fantastic on our rainforest walk and night caiman spotting trip. She brought everything to life with her knowledge and lovely personality. The rooms are small, but spotless and really comfortable. This family run hotel is warm and welcoming, right by the devils rapids in el castillo, where we loved watching the water from a hammock on the veranda. When we arrived, Marga went into the village to get us a doughnut and made us tea. The tea was pretty good too, which was a pleasant surprise for this Englishman. It’s a special place, so don’t hesitate to visit.

Manuel and Margarita are excellent hosts. After three trips to El Castillo, this is easily my favorite place to stay. They know the area well, can arrange tours, and suggest restaurants, making for a wonderful visit. The beds are comfortable, there’s A/C and hot water, and the river views and sounds make the stay even better. Best hotel in El Castillo.

Waking up to the smell of coffee was perfect, and breakfast was a lovely start to a busy day. Luna del Rio feels like a home away from home, right on the river, where we could watch the rapids below us over breakfast. Margarita, the owner, gave me a very friendly welcome. My room had a personalized welcome sign, a great bathroom and shower, A/C that I didn’t use, and a nice reading light. It was very comfortable. I highly recommend Luna del Rio!

The house has just four small rooms, set right beside the beautiful river. The owners put their hearts into making guests feel at home and making the stay as nice as possible. It’s one of the best owner run hotels I’ve stayed in. Be sure to book a tour with them, it’s absolutely worth it.

A short walk gets you to the center, while the neighborhood itself is really quiet. My room was comfortable, with air conditioning and a nice balcony overlooking the river. The host was amazing, and I highly recommend Hotel Luna del rio in El Castillo. We also booked a tour through them, and both guides were phenomenal. What more could you want?
