Hotel Real La Merced

I felt at home as soon as I arrived, thanks to the genuinely warm welcome from the staff. My room was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed. The breakfast was superb, with fresh local flavors, and there were lovely ways to spend the day, whether by the pool, having coffee with a view, or relaxing in the evening. The whole hotel felt comfortable and elegant, with Nicaraguan charm. I’ll be back.

This was my second visit to Hotel Real La Merced, and it lived up to my first stay. We left Granada a week ago, and I still have no complaints. The staff were welcoming, the rooms spotless, and the restaurant food outstanding. The atmosphere is relaxed and down to earth, and the location puts restaurants, markets, barbershops, and cozy cafés close by. I highly recommend it, a well-deserved five stars.

Being owned and run by Nicaraguans matters to me as someone who wants travel spending to stay with local people and businesses. The location is very central, with food, bars, and other things you might need just a block or two away. Staff were helpful the whole time, arranging taxis for day trips and shuttles for wherever else I needed to go. The pool was a welcome way to cool down in Nicaragua’s heat, and the front gate is closed at night, which made the place feel very secure. I’d put this among the best hotels in the area.

The room had high ceilings and plenty of space, and I loved the pool in the middle of the hotel and the pretty pink staircase. It’s right beside La Merced Church, where you can pay $1 per person to climb up and look over Granada. For parking, there are a few street spaces with security cameras, plus a lot a few blocks away. I can’t say what that farther lot is like since we parked on the street. My only gripe was the tiny shampoo and soap that were hard to use. Bring your own shampoo and shower gel or soap. If they improve that, I’d definitely come back!
