A cute place, kept up well, with friendly people running it. Parking is available, and breakfast comes with the stay.

This was easily our best stay in Nicaragua. The rooms were clean and nice, and breakfast was good quality. The hostel owner was fantastic, helped us with everything, and took us canyoning. He knows the area well. He even bought our expreso bus tickets to Managua.

The people are what make this place. Emil went out of his way to help us feel comfortable, and accompanied us on a tour to the Somoto Canyon. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was a really nice Nica one, the best we’d had in three weeks. Great stay and amazing hospitality. I strongly recommend making the trip up North.

Our time in Somoto was amazing, thanks to Hostal San José and Emil. He looked after us and whatever we needed, took us on an incredible Somoto Canyon tour, and was warm and welcoming the whole stay. The price was good too.

The rooms were spotless and the balcony was peaceful. The host was so friendly and helpful that I’d give the service 10 stars if I could. He pointed out that travelling to managua on semana santa, the Easter national holiday, meant there would be no buses that day. He helped us leave right after our canyoning tour and even bought our tickets to save us time. I highly recommend staying at this hostal.
