For a quieter stay away from busy mainstream hostels, this is a great little place. It’s only got four or five double rooms, so the atmosphere feels relaxed, and it’s on a calm street close to restaurants. Really good value for money. The owner is lovely and keeps making the hostel prettier. There are beautiful paintings by local artists on the walls :)

This little place is close to the city center, with just five rooms, a mix of private rooms and dorms. It’s very cute inside and seems to be a hangout for local jugglers and artisans. Upstairs live three permanent residents, including one artisan who makes jewelry and another who does henna and piercings. The woman who runs the place also had a little clothing shop, so you can leave the nicarao looking a lot better than when you came in. She’s super sweet, and you might find her watching soap operas in the Sala.

At $12 a night, I had the only room with its own bathroom. It was clean and felt safe, and the owner is a really sweet lady. You can walk to the town center.
