Hotel La Omaja

The hotel is peaceful and welcoming, with kind, attentive staff who made sure we had what we needed. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, a real help in the heat. The drive takes about 20 minutes along an unpaved road. It’s manageable during the day, though driving it in the dark can be challenging. Still, it’s worth it once you arrive. I highly recommend Hotel La Omaja for a clean, restful stay and great hospitality on Ometepe.

We loved the location and how welcoming the staff were. The hotel was clean, and the sunset here is the best on the island. Amazing place!

The views are beautiful, the jungle sounds are lovely, and some of the food is quite good. We liked the quesadillas, but avoid the steak. The drive from the ferry is long and scenic, though it can be rough in places. The local staff were very kind and clearly doing their best to make things nice. We didn’t see the American owner. There’s plenty that needs attention too. The pool was dirty, with cloudy water and walls in disrepair, so we didn’t want to use it. There was no shampoo, though we bought some, and the lighting was poor, including no plug by the bedside lamp. We also had no water and then no electricity. That may be par for the course in the jungle, but it still made this a difficult place to rate fairly against other hotels.

We came back for an anniversary trip after our honeymoon here last year, and this stay left us with an even better impression. The cabins are spacious, each with a balcony and great amenities, plus unforgettable views. The infinity pool is right by the restaurant, so it’s easy to relax with a drink. They make a perfect Piña Colada, though my wife prefers the elegantly served Margarita. Our last night was spectacular, with guests from a nearby Airbnb, expats, and locals. A lightning storm swept over Ometepe and made it unforgettable. Getting back the next day was an adventure: the power was out and fallen trees sometimes blocked the road. Friendly locals helped service crews with machetes, and we still made our ferry in plenty of time.
