Xalli Beach Hotel

The only real downside was that WiFi didn’t work in our room. Otherwise, we had a great time at Xalli and would come back. Carlos deserves a special mention for going above and beyond to make us comfortable, and all the staff were kind and helpful. The hotel is well placed, with most activities a 15-20 minute scooter ride away. Staff were also great at arranging tours, taxis, and scooter rentals.

Renting a scooter is the best way to explore the island freely and make the most of your stay. The location is great, with plenty of good restaurants and attractions nearby. Our room at Xalli Hotel on Ometepe was always clean and well cared for, so we felt comfortable right away. Luis at reception was especially helpful, giving us great tips and guides and being available whenever we needed anything. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return.

The location is good, and some staff, including Carlos, were very friendly. But many seemed unfriendly or annoyed. I felt awkward asking for more coffee or ice, even though asking was the only way to get either. Before my last day, they told me to come to breakfast at 6:40 so I could catch the ferry. Breakfast starts at 6:30, but when I arrived they seemed irritated and said I was early and they weren’t ready, though they’d try to make something. I booked a scooter through the hotel. It cost a bit more, but I thought that would be easier since I was staying there. The rental itself was great and I’d recommend it. The guide I booked to climb a volcano was only so-so, and the taxi to the ferry was very unfriendly. My experience was somewhat negative overall, and this was the only hotel on my trip I regretted booking.

For such a small operation, Carlos, Karina, Louis, and Moses gave us really great hospitality. Service was five stars. They helped arrange our hike, transport, laundry, and meals, including food brought to our room on the deck while we read. I also had an amazing massage on my porch from Lidia. The price felt very reasonable for how attentive the service was. We’re the kind of travelers who ask for what we want, even if it isn’t obvious, and I’m sure Karina, Carlos, Louis, or Moses will try to help make your stay what you need. Food was all good at breakfast, with great coffee and a la carte drinks available. For dinner, the hamburger and chicken fingers were my favorites. The room was very clean, with daily towel changes and the bed made, though the bed and pillows were just okay. The location is perfect, with beach access and really nice swimming. It’s close to everything by scooter or rental car, but not very close if you’re walking.
