We stayed at The Jungle for six nights in a two-bedroom house with a kitchen, and the price was really good. The ferry is about a 50-minute motorcycle ride away, which is the only downside, but it's worth it. Michael (owner) and his family were so friendly. He was always there when we needed him, told us things to do on the island, and arranged horseback riding and kayaking for us. Their kitchen was really, really good too. We had fish, iron steak, and breakfast some days, and everything was delicious.

The family who run The Jungle Altagracia made the stay feel personal and welcoming, like being invited into someone's home. Every interaction was thoughtful and warm. The setting has swaying palms, green growth, and golden light through the trees, with a nice balance between jungle and comfort. It's peaceful and grounding, the kind of place that lets you slow down. We left relaxed and grateful, already thinking about coming back. The sunrises were breathtaking, and the little wildlife moments made us stop and take it all in.

Waking up to the lake and birds was probably my favorite part. The views are incredible, and my room was spacious and enjoyable. The Jungle is a quiet place on Merida island, away from busier spots like Balgue. The staff were friendly and easy to communicate with, and there’s a restaurant on site. San Ramon waterfall is about 10 minutes away, Balgue about 20 minutes, while the port at San Jose del Sur is roughly an hour away. A great choice if you want somewhere off the beaten path.

Jungle Room 6, the top unit, had a stunning, romantic view, though all the jungle rooms looked out beautifully. The rooms were clean and felt secure. Just be aware that the top room had no hot water or AC, while I believe the other rooms do. Strong winds knocked the power out at night during our stay, but it was back by morning. Michael was kind and accommodating, and we’d happily return. For a three-star hotel, we’d give it five stars. The owner and staff were friendly, too.

Maykel and his wife were the best part, such lovely, helpful people. The room, garden, food, and view were all awesome too. Don’t overthink it, just head to The Jungle!
