This photo is from Mancarron island, July 2010.

The wooded surroundings of the island are beautiful and peaceful, with plenty of birds and flowering bushes, especially hibiscus. From the nearby boat dock, you can swim safely in Lake Nicaragua, where the water is fairly clear. At night the low light pollution often makes the stars and shooting stars easy to see. Whenever I walked past this hotel, it was closed because there weren’t enough tourists. I’ve stayed twice at the neighboring “Buen Amigo” hostel. The Solentiname Islands are among Nicaragua’s wettest areas. Even four weeks after the rainy season was theoretically over, there were still heavy showers every day, while the area around Granada had barely had any rain since November.

The food was the standout for me: everything was fresh and beautifully presented, and the cooking was excellent. They serve a set menu rather than à la carte. The hotel itself is simple and clean, though its facilities are a little dated.

A really good hotel for this island.

A nice place to visit in Nicaragua.
