The setting is peaceful and tucked away, with a lovely view, but still close enough to town. Carlos was a really friendly, attentive host. Getting around the property was the harder part: our car was parked a long way off in an unlit, lonely spot, and there’s no proper parking area. At night it gets very dark and felt scary at first. The pool was dirty and full of bugs, maybe because it’s up on the hill. Reaching the room means climbing a very steep staircase, which left my legs sore for days since I’m not used to that. Even the drive up the hill felt a little unnerving.

The bay view was the only part we liked. The photos must be old, and the whole place seemed badly put together. Our room was around 45°C when we arrived, and the AC either didn’t work or couldn’t cool the black metal box in the sun. Ants kept coming through the ceiling and dropping onto the bed, so we left that evening. In two years of travel, this was our worst stay. The pool water was dirty and green. They also kept part of our payment when we asked for a refund, even though the room was impossible for us to stay in, and we never got that money back. We didn’t try breakfast, but hearing it was only fruit unless we paid extra for anything else wasn’t appealing.

You can sit on the private balcony or rooftop and watch the stars, or enjoy the communal space around the infinity pool. The glass doors open onto a huge panorama of mountains, rainforest, ocean, and the famous Christ of the Mercy statue. The beds are comfortable, and it’s quiet while still close to town. Hot water and cold AC are rare treats in Nicaragua. The staff were the best, especially Carlos. A must-stay in San Juan del Sur.

We were told it had been closed for two years. When we got there, the place was abandoned.

The room had a moldy smell, and there was no shower water or internet, although internet was supposed to be available. Breakfast was listed as continental and included, but they said coffee would cost extra 😳. Carlos was very attentive, but the stay felt poor quality for the price.
