Hotel Amstelzicht

The Dutch stairs are so steep they turned into an Instagram moment for me, and the staff were friendly and chatty. This is a small three-star hotel, and I read the website, so I wasn't expecting a Hilton at this price. The canal-view room was worth it, with attractions close by.

There’s nowhere to pull up, even briefly, to load or unload luggage if you're arriving by car. It made an already stressful situation worse. At checkout at 11:00 AM, I asked the receptionist to help bring my luggage downstairs. I had my baby with me and couldn’t leave them alone in the lobby, and I couldn’t manage the bags on those stairs by myself. She refused, saying that leaving them in the room until my husband arrived would mean a late checkout charge. There was no flexibility or understanding. The stairs are extremely steep and hard to use with luggage. I wouldn't consider this safe for kids or families. The lack of support from reception was really disappointing. Not family-friendly, poor service, and impractical if you're traveling by car.

I stayed in room 207 and loved the beautiful canal view. The room was huge, and the hotel interior was lovely, with patterned carpets and gorgeous floral arrangements. The espresso machine in the room was a great touch. Staff were kind, attentive, and friendly. It's in an old canal house, so there’s no lift and the stairs are very steep and narrow. That may be why the price is comparatively low. I wouldn't recommend it to people with limited mobility or extremely heavy, large luggage. For everyone else, it's hard to beat at these prices. I hope to stay here whenever I come to Amsterdam.

What do you mean there are no separate bedrooms, just people sharing the same bed or double bed? I'm 30, I'm not sleeping with my parent. This feels like a hotel for couples wanting a getaway, and two stars at best. The rooms could be bigger, but they've chosen to make them smaller so they can fit more guests. Do what you want with that information.
