We were sent here after our flight was cancelled, and the hotel made an already stressful situation much worse. The room was dirty and poorly kept, with stained bedding, dust everywhere, and a strong bad smell from the bathroom. The walls were so thin that I heard loud conversations, slamming doors, and hallway noise all night. I couldn't get a proper night's sleep. The staff were mostly unhelpful, and one rude, unprofessional woman checked us in with no empathy about why we were there. They even took away basic amenities. When I asked for a cup of hot water for tea, I was told no because it would be “free.” The one bright spot was a man with curly dark hair whose name I unfortunately forgot. He was kind, helpful, and understanding, the only staff member who showed genuine care. This was one of my worst hotel stays. The place is poorly maintained, and I regret staying here. I'd never come back. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

The room smelled unpleasant and wasn't cleaned for two days in a row, even though I asked repeatedly. Housekeeping was noticeably poor. Reception staff were also unprofessional, with little courtesy or cooperation. I was very dissatisfied with the service at Bastion Hotel. Management should review its cleaning procedures, service quality, and staff training so the guest experience meets visitors' expectations and the hotel's reputation.

After our flight was cancelled, the airport arranged three rooms here, supposedly with breakfast for two nights. The woman at the desk argued that we only had rooms, and at 11am the next day they locked us out because they hadn't received their money. The staff were argumentative and rude. Housekeeping was poor and the rooms were disgusting. Shower gel and big towels were missing, and we even found an old, dirty towel under the bed. We built a snowman to amuse ourselves, and the hotel knocked it down. We were very unhappy with the stay and would strongly recommend staying away.

When I arrived, I told the receptionist that things hadn't gone well so far and hoped they'd improve. She said, “You can always go to another hotel.” That pretty much says it all about the attitude and service. I'm a frequent traveler and rarely leave a negative review, but this was unacceptable from beginning to end, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone who expects basic courtesy or professionalism. My Booking.com payment hadn't been approved for some reason, and the elevator wasn't working when I got there. Not one staff member showed any sense of hospitality during my stay.

Lucas at the front desk was really friendly and nice to talk to. He even gave us hotel gifts, a cooking glove and an inflatable travel pillow. Everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, and they had arranged a nice cot for my baby, which I'd requested during booking. I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. I'd booked the wrong dates on a booking website, but they sorted it out very efficiently over the phone. It's within walking distance of the train station and tram line. Parking is the downside: you can't reserve a spot. It's paid at 15 euros a day and first come, first served. I was told by phone that even if you pay, you're not guaranteed to keep your space if you leave the hotel with your car. Still, it's a good hotel, and I'd stay again if I need a place in Amsterdam. Next time I'll book on their website, which was much easier and better than the one I used before.
