The staff were the best part of our stay. They were welcoming, friendly, and happy to help, which really lifted the experience. City Hotel Amsterdam is also in an amazing spot, with just about everything within walking distance. Our room was tiny, almost like student accommodation, though that’s probably what you expect for the price in central Amsterdam. The plug sockets were in odd places and made charging things awkward. Breakfast was the low point too, very plain and a bit bland. If a small room is fine with you, the location and kind staff make it a solid option.

I wouldn’t recommend City Hotel Amsterdam after what happened with my booking. I had a confirmed reservation for a tourism trade fair, but severe weather cancelled my flight and Amsterdam was under an official orange alert. I let the hotel know in advance, but couldn’t reach the city, check in, or stay there. They still treated it as a no-show, wouldn’t consider an exception, and kept even the city/tourist tax although I never entered Amsterdam or stayed at the property. To me, that showed no goodwill and a dated approach to hospitality. In an emergency or force majeure situation, they didn’t seem to be on the guest’s side. I work in hotels myself, and in our industry it’s common to be understanding and make exceptions in extraordinary circumstances. Keeping non-refundable charges may be legal on paper, but I don’t think it’s fair or ethical. If your travel plans go wrong because of weather, a cancelled flight, or another emergency, I wouldn’t count on flexibility or guest-oriented help here.

Simona at the front desk was the highlight for us. She was incredibly helpful with tour bookings and getting us oriented around the city. The hotel was clean, and it’s about a 10-minute walk from Centraal Rail station. We also thought the breakfast buffet was very good and the other amenities were more than acceptable. After reading some other reviews, I reckon some people just like to complain or expect too much from a small, older 3 Star hotel. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

A small, cute place near the central station and the busy bar district. The rooms are fine for getting some rest after walking around all day or going out partying. Breakfast is basic, and the staff are lovely.

The room was clean, including the beds, but it felt disappointing, very tiny and dark, and the safe didn’t work. Breakfast was standard, nothing special, and the service was OK. The location is good and close to the main station. It was quite expensive, though maybe that’s normal for city hotels in Amsterdam.
